FSSAI REGISTRATION

What is FSSAI ?

The FSSAI License refers to the mandatory registration or licensing provided by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. It is required for all businesses involved in the manufacturing, processing, packaging, storage, distribution, or sale of food products in India.

The primary purpose of the FSSAI License is to ensure that food products are safe for consumption and meet the quality standards set by the authority. It promotes consumer trust, regulates food safety practices, and helps in monitoring the food business ecosystem across the country.

Depending on the scale and nature of the business, there are three types of FSSAI registrations:

  1. Basic Registration – for small businesses or startups with an annual turnover up to ₹12 lakh.

  2. State License – for medium-sized businesses with a turnover between ₹12 lakh and ₹20 crore.

  3. Central License – for large-scale businesses with turnover above ₹20 crore or businesses engaged in export, import, or operating in multiple states.
